Curacao Beaches: Barbara Beach, Blue Bay Beach, And Seaquarium Beach

Bright sunshine. Pristine sand. Clear blue water. Though it may seem like these are the only factors that go into classifying a great beach, there are so many more that go into determining the best. Curacao beaches, those located along the sleepy shores of the largest Netherlands Antilles island in the South Caribbean, are some of the best around, but the individual beaches vary widely in type, ambiance and amenities. Deciding between the 38 Curacao beaches and inlets may seem daunting, but choosing which stretch of tropical paradise to sun on cannot be that tough.
Curacao is located just 40 miles off the coast of Venezuela and is the largest member of the ABC island group (Aruba and Bonaire being the other two). Though not necessarily famous, Curacao beaches are still pristine stretches of sand that are perfect for the relaxation seeking traveler. While the north side of the island is fraught with strong currents and rough waves (more ideal for surfers than snorkelers), the long stretch of the southern edge contains bunches of protected bays, beaches and inlets that make for idyllic sun and sand getaways. While many Curacao beaches receive crowds of weekend tourists, there are many hidden inlets, known as bocas in the local language of Papiamentu, that provide perfect (if a little rugged) spots for seemingly private beach time. In general, Curacao beaches have enough variety and promise to make even the pickiest beach comber happy.
Just around from the east point of the island is one of the most family friendly Curacao beaches called Barbara Beach. This shady stretch of sand located along what is known as the Spanish Waters area is very popular with parents traveling with children. Nearby facilities include showers, restaurants and a terrace from which families watch the large sailboats and yachts slip by. Like most Curacao beaches, Barbara Beach gets crowded on the weekends, but weekdays usually have a much quieter feel.
As far as Curacao beaches go, the happening sands of Blue Bay Beach, or Blauwbaai as it is known locally, provide the most action anywhere on the island. Though visitors have to pay a small admittance fee, Blue Bay Beach is well worth the cost with its huge beach area, spectacular sand and sapphire colored water. Visitors can also enjoy convenient showers and changing facilities as well as nearby shopping and restaurants. There is a dive shop for local scuba diving, a playground for kids and even a swimming pool nearby. In terms of action and activities, Curacao beaches start at Blue Bay Beach and calm down from there.
For a quieter, more peaceful scene, Seaquarium beach is the perfect choice. Though a little ways off the beaten track, this spot has the serene bay waters and nearby amenities that any relaxing beach lover can appreciate. The gorgeous surroundings are only a stone's throw away from the namesake Sea Aquarium, boutique shops and plenty of hotels and restaurants. A small entrance fee is required but well worth it for one of the more relaxing Curacao beaches around.
Whether they are crowded and active or peaceful and serene, Curacao beaches have it all. Each of the 38 Curacao beaches (and even the numerous hidden inlets) are said to have distinct personalities. Explore them all and find the perfect beach for that perfect stay in tropical paradise. It is all possible on any of the Curacao beaches.
